|

Location: HQ1 iLab, HQ1-2-701

Opening Remarks for the Workshop:

Session I:

Climate Innovation Challenge Workshop:

The workshop will open with introductory remarks from Johannes Wiegand, Advisor of the Strategy, Policy, and Review Department, and Bert Kroese, Director of the Statistics Department. It consists of two engaging sessions from winners of the IMF Climate Innovation Challenge: the PortWatch platform (Session I at 10:00 a.m., as described below), and the machine learning climate toolbox (Session II at 11:00 a.m., advertised separately).

Session I:

This session will provide participants with hands-on experience on using cutting edge tools to analyze the impact of natural disasters. Participants will gain a preview of the PortWatch portal, which allows users to monitor local and global spillovers from natural disasters by leveraging insights on the international trade network. The PortWatch project uses satellite-based vessel data and big data analytics to monitor trade disruptions from natural disasters. Participants will explore how international supply chains are exposed to actual and hypothetical disaster-related disruptions to port activity, gaining data-driven insights to help countries build resilience to climate change.
