OVERVIEW

Spending well and ensuring that citizens get value for money from public expenditures is more important than ever. After crisis upon crisis, public debts are high, borrowing costs are mounting, and fiscal authorities need to do their part in facilitating a return to price stability. Meanwhile, the need to protect the vulnerable and to invest for the Sustainable Development Goals implies that more and more, policy makers face tough choices. Reducing waste and leakages is imperative. Oversight, information availability, and accountability can increase trust in governments, deliver better public services, and contribute to better fiscal outcomes.
