Target Audience

The workshop is intended for government officials who are integrally involved in the compilation of national accounts statistics. Participants should be suppliers of statistics that are used to compile national accounts statistics, national accounts statistics compilers, or users of national accounts statistics for official policy-making purposes.

 

Qualifications

Since the workshop will focus on an advanced issue in national accounts, the participants must already possess a firm grasp of the fundamentals of national accounting.
 

Course Description

This one-week course will cover Supply and Use Tables (SUT), Input-Output Tables (IOT) and extensions. The following topics will be covered:

  • Overview of SUT and Their Structure;
  • Data Sources and Practical Compilation Aspects of SUT;
  • Balancing the SUT;
  • Transforming SUT into IOT; and
  • Impact Modeling Using IOT.

The course will be delivered virtually, for three hours per day from February 8th to 12th. The course will feature interactive lectures and hands-on exercises that enable participants to operationalize what they learn.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss SUT structure
  • Use SUT to calculate GDP
  • Understand the benefits of compiling SUT as an integral part of the  national accounts
  • Compile SUT in volume terms
  • Use SUT to enable double deflation
  • Investigate inconsistencies in SUT
  • Balance SUT at purchasers' prices and basic prices
  • Use the IMF SUT balancing tool Feedback from other accounts and IOTs
  • Transform SUT into IOT
  • Conduct impact modeling using IOT
